How the Hyundai Accent stacks up against the Ford Focus
 by Nigel Cooper, Topanga CA

Performance
When it comes to horsepower, the Ford Focus packs quite a wallop and will knock the Hyundai Accent down a few rungs. However, note that high horsepower engines often command higher insurance premiums.

Handling
Really small tires, like the ones on the Accent, might improve gas mileage but could also be responsible for a somewhat unstable ride. With their similar turning circles, the Accent and the Focus very likely handle about the same into and out of tight spots.

Drivetrain
The Hyundai Accent's engine is considerably smaller than the Focus's. Note that smaller engines can be stressed more; on the flip side, smaller engines typically get better gas mileage. Torque equals pickup, and the Ford Focus will have picked up and gone by the time the Hyundai finally gets moving.

Utility
The Ford Focus is likely a better choice than the Accent as far as hauling capacity, especially if you often need to carry a lot of loot or big animals. Neither the Hyundai Accent nor the Focus has a marked advantage when it comes to seating capacity.

Convenience
You definitely won't have to visit your friendly gas station more often with the Hyundai Accent than with the Ford, because both offer similar mileage ranges.

Comfort
While the front cabin in the Ford Focus offers a bit more head room than the Hyundai Accent, there frankly isn't much of a difference. The ampler interior dimensions of the Ford Focus make it considerably more spacious for your passengers than the Accent.

Dimensions
The Ford is markedly more ponderous than the Accent. Your wallet will hurt more every time you fill up the Ford Focus than the Hyundai Accent because of its more capacious tank. The Accent and the Focus compete for the same parking spaces. The Hyundai's shorter wheelbase may produce a less-settled highway ride but a nimbler feel in daily traffic than the Ford Focus.

Cost
With respect to fuel economy, the Hyundai Accent is a bit better than the Ford Focus, but not by much. The Hyundai Accent is considerably less expensive than the Ford Focus as far as MSRP.

Overview
The basic warranty that comes with the Ford Focus isn't quite as generous as the Hyundai Accent's.

Other
The Hyundai Accent emits fewer smog-forming pollutants per 15,000 miles than the Ford Focus.

Holyoke, MA - Home Of Gary Rome Hyundai In Western Massachusetts

The beautiful, idyllic Pioneer Valley of Western Massachusetts used to be one of the world's best kept secrets. But now, more and more companies are choosing to expand here creating jobs, and increasing opportunities for all. Simply telling the good news of this region's lower costs and great quality of life to the right corporate decision makers, is attracting strong interest.

Headquarters companies including MassMutual, National Evaluation Systems, Blackstone Medical, Micro Test Laboratories, and many others have expanded.

The number of new businesses is also increasing, now up 18% versus 2001 (well above the state’s rate of increase).

Why is this modest mid-sized region being “discovered” by more and more companies?

Simply because, to compete in the northeastern United States, they need:

- A well educated “Knowledge Corridor” workforce – over 1 million strong
- Lower costs then competitive major markets throughout the northeast;
- A strategic central location at the crossroads of New England;
- An exciting yet relaxed quality of life.

All is available here in the Pioneer Valley of Western Massachusetts.

Your bottom line is greener here.

Western Massachusetts can be divided into approximately four zones running from north to south across the region.

The Berkshires
The Berkshire Mountains are a branch of the ancient Appalachian Mountains in the extreme west of the state, consisting approximately of Berkshire County. The chief cities in the area are Pittsfield and North Adams.

The Hill Towns
The Hill Towns more or less include the areas of Franklin, Hampshire, and Hampden Counties between the Connecticut River valley towns and the Berkshires.

The Valley
The Connecticut River valley is formed on a fault line from when Africa subducted under North America millions of years ago, leaving part of itself behind. Cities in this region include Springfield, Greenfield, Northampton, South Hadley, and Holyoke.

The Amherst Hill Towns
The area to the east of the Valley does not have a general name, and thus is often mistakenly considered part of the valley itself. Pelham, Shutesbury, and Leverett are part of the Amherst school district, and also called the "Hill Towns," despite being on the other side of the river from other hill towns. This area includes the Quabbin Reservoir.
